Open Mic Night Wells Cathedral School Oboe and Bassoon Day

Join Wells Cathedral School for an exciting, fun day of ensemble playing, masterclasses and more, culminating in a concert featuring the amazing Duck to Diva composition by Teresa Barlow. Every participant will play in this exciting new piece!

Enjoy an inspirational day of playing with some of the UK’s top teachers and performers in the state-of-the-art performance venue, Cedars Hall. We will be joined by double reed students and tutors from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. The day will include:

•Workshops and coached ensembles to develop your playing

•Solo performance masterclasses

•An informal concert at the end of the day

•Music Conservatoire audition advice and top tips

•The opportunity to try and buy instruments, music and accessories from the John Packer trade stand.

Liz Fyfe – Oboe

Previously a member of the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden, Liz Fyfe is the oboe tutor at Wells Cathedral School. Also a tutor for the National Children’s Orchestra, Liz loves working with oboists of all stages and is always looking for new ways to enthuse young musicians.

Connie Tanner – Bassoon

Recently appointed as bassoon teacher at Wells, Connie is widely regarded as one of the UK’s foremost freelance bassoonists. She has performed with all of the UK’s top orchestras including guest principal with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Connie teaches at RAM Junior Department and she is a coach for the NCO.

Open to all musicians under 18 years, of all musical abilities Admission £40 (bursaries available upon request)

There are places for complete beginners to join us in the afternoon for a fee of £10 to try these amazing instruments (fee covers the cost of a reed). Please email music@wells.cathedral.school to apply as a beginner. Refreshments will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch.
