Amy Sims

I am passionate about teaching music. I teach string students of all ages, from beginners to degree level. I place great importance on building good technical foundations and developing all-round musicianship skills. I enjoy exploring new ways to make string playing a fun, inclusive and interactive experience for all my pupils. This can be in a whole class setting, small group or a one-to-one lesson.

The cello is my principal instrument, however, I have experience teaching, directing and playing all bowed-stringed instruments. I have led whole class bowed-strings programmes in primary schools and directed ensembles.

I have performed in venues around London and on cruise ships around the world. In the past, I performed regularly with the Arion Orchestra. I would love to establish a new string ensemble with friends and colleagues in the future.

Inspired by my work as a performer, and as a chamber music coordinator, I like to encourage my pupils to participate in chamber ensembles wherever possible. I aim to explore this further in the future, with a view to setting up chamber music programmes in schools and organising workshops for children and adults. I currently run a weekly cello ensemble for adult learners.
