My journey includes earning a master’s degree in music therapy and gaining extensive experience in therapeutic settings covering the entire life cycle. As a mature student with a teaching background, and as a parent, I have worked with Multi-Disciplinary Teams, families, patients and students throughout their educational journey and therapeutic journeys, allowing me to develop a strong foundation in providing holistic care through music therapy. Education University of the West of England – Masters in Music Therapy 2024 University of Plymouth Ba Hons in Music 2008 University of Plymouth PGCE 2009 Full Qualified Teaching Status 2011 Awards – Single Parent Award – Outstanding Commitment to Studies during PGCE Boards – HCPC registered QTS registered Experience RecoveryDevon – current Secured funding to implement a small-scale music therapy initiative catering to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses in remote rural areas, as well as their families and caregivers. Trainee Music Therapist with UWE 2020 – 2024 Student Representative UWE Year 2 – Supporting Students Needs whilst on the course Placements : SEND PLMD School – CHROMA PICU Adult Mental Health 1-1 work – Somerset NHS Taunton, NHS and Towersay Music Therapy Trust – Devon Intergenerational Groupwork with ( Volunteer Assistant Music Therapist/ UWE Trainee Music Therapist) Reminiscent Learning – Wellington, Somerset Charity for Families living with Dementia in the community 1-1 Group Work • During my clinical training, I established a thriving music therapy practice within a PICU unit and with a Dementia Charity. I took the lead in producing compelling information leaflets,( currently used in Y1 lectures at UWE), and eye-catching posters, and provided training sessions for the staff to gain support and for me to aim to work seamlessly with the MDTs. They were enthusiastically encouraged to attend the sessions, offering their valuable input and gaining insights into how the patients or clients engaged with the therapy during reflection after each session. This would enable me to also learn, reflect and develop future sessions. • Additionally, I meticulously followed the standard 12-week assessment process and implemented four key evidence-based strategies within music therapy to effectively engage with the patients, clients, or students, creating a comprehensive approach that ensures the therapy is truly person-centred. This approach allowed the clients to confidently tell their stories and explore with me, as a therapist I would improvise, create lyrics, stories, lullabies, and story albums to share with the family and incorporate technology apps within the sessions or for clients to use independently. I would engage clients with my ability to hold, mirror, and match, create a relationship using humour, compassion and empathy with them connecting through music without words and noticing moments of synchronicity and engagement with that person. • I generated goals, outcomes, and clinical assessments in collaboration with the MDT, my supervisors, the client, and the family. One example is when I worked with a quadriplegic young client to explore vocal sounds and arm movements. The MDT was unsure how to engage the client, so I used music and turned the piano into a game. I also used humour by placing the symbol at certain angles, sound clashes, and chromaticism on the piano,

Rosie Davies
Rosie Davies (BMus, DipABRSM, LRSM) was raised in a very musical environment, her father was a professional violinist and her mum was a violin teacher and owned a music shop. Music was part of everything. Rosie went on to join the Royal Marines Band Service and studied with Portsmouth University earning a degree in Music. She did a lot of travelling and performing with the Marines until the birth of her first child and has since shared her passion for music with others. Rosie is a keen singer, as well as being trained in piano, strings and woodwind. She is keen to inspire young people to enjoy making music and have fun performing. |

I have been teaching music in a senior school in Cheadle, Manchester for the past 2 years having trained for my PGCE in Manchester after graduating from UoM with an upper second. I will have completed my ECT qualification by the end of this academic year. I trained with Stockport Music Service whilst on my placements and so gained the skills and knowledge for teaching instrumentally as well as classroom. I want to continue teaching but as a peripatetic so that I can pursue performing too, whilst moving back home to Devon. I achieved grade 8 distinction in piano bassoon and singing. I also play guitar and bass guitar. At university, bassoon was my first study. During my training I taught beginner flute, clarinet and recorder so would also be able to offer this. |

Rose Sage B.A. (Hons) MEd PGCE Dip ABRSM
I studied music, specialising in flute performance and teaching, at Dartington College of Arts in the 1980s. I also gained my PGCE in primary teaching and worked as a primary class teacher in the 1990’s. After having my two daughters I returned to full time peripatetic teaching in 1998. Along the way I also gained my Dip ABRSM Flute Diploma and have taught flute to this level, with pupils moving on to study music at university and specialist music schools such as The Purcell School.
I have taught First Access whole class recorder lessons to classes in primary schools for 16 years in Torbay, with groups being invited to play for the Torbay Music Festival Live Concert Experience Days and as an example of good practice for Primary Teachers CPD workshop days. I am passionate about the art of teaching and I get tremendous pleasure from introducing different styles of music to my pupils. I teach children and adults from age 7 upwards, with my specialist instrument being the flute, from beginners to Grade 8 and beyond. Since I started teaching, whilst still a student in the 1980’s, I have become increasingly interested in teacher training particularly in the area of training non musician primary teachers to feel able and confident to teach music to their classes. I have delivered in service training for Devon Youth Music, Torbay Council and Trinity College London and I am particularly interested in working with primary schools to help them integrate musical literacy into their music curriculum teaching. I believe that music teachers should practice what they preach! I am the Principal Flute with Torbay Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Band of Britannia Royal Naval College and also am the joint director of the Shine Steel Community Band in Dartmouth, which gives me the opportunity to play many different styles of music every week, alongside my teaching. If you are an individual or from a school, get in touch to enquire about my availability to start or continue your musical journey as an instrumentalist or musical primary class teacher. |
