We are delighted to welcome multi-award-winning Tenor and Baritone Saxophonist Karen Sharp for her first in-person masterclass with South Devon Youth Jazz!

This workshop will be open to all instrumentalists of approximately Grade 2 and above who are keen to explore the world of jazz and improvise music – this is not a strict requirement, so please contact us if you are unsure.

She kindly delivered an online masterclass during the March lockdown in 2021, and we are privileged that she is able to deliver a high-quality jazz workshop in person this time.

Alongside her education work with the Oxfordshire Youth Big Bands, Karen is a leading light in the British Jazz scene, working with some of the country’s finest small- and large-scale jazz artists such as John and Jacqui Dankworth, Ken Peplowski, Alan Barnes, Guy Barker, Tina May, Nikki Iles, Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen.

Here is a short clip of her playing – it’s not to be missed: https://youtu.be/Tr-m-zkTcQ8

Alongside Karen, students will be supported by a professional rhythm section and regular tutors Sam Massey and Jade, who will be performing a short number with Karen after the student showcase at the end of the workshop.
